We still study the area to better understand our atmosphere. Better understanding the environment helps by allowing us to study in a environment that is not naturally available on Earth. The Moon is one of the main targets in future space exploration. China is one nation that is currently planning to go to the moon. They plan to send the Chang'e 5. The mission is planned to return with the first moon sample since 1976. JAXA, Japan's space organization, has plans to launch SLIM, a mission to show precision landing technology, in 2021.
