Current Space
Today in space exploration many countries are working together or some countries are starting their space program. Current space mission are not just missions that were launched in the past year or so. They can be missions that are still continued today that started as far back as the cold war. Some past missions are still used today since they are already proven and work.
Today it cost millions and even billions to start and carry out a new mission. Many missions are started from new but the majority of them are based off of past missions. For an example the Apollo missions are being used today to help get humans back to the moon. Past mission technology helps save money and even time when a new mission is being developed.

NASA currently has 46 different missions. Some of them date back to 1977, which those are the two different Voyagers. Those two missions from 1977 are considered current currently because they are still getting and using the data from the mission. Both Voyager missions are flying through space to interstellar space. They are still operational but their distance from Earth is too far for information to be sent clearly.
NASA and other space organizations use missions to collect data about Earth. Today NASA currently uses multiple types of satellites to measure and view the Earth in a different way. The view of Earth from space is a better advantage than on Earth. With missions in orbit the organizations can collect data. That data could be from rainfall, ocean levels, weather or even animal migration. The data is used by many groups of people in many different ways. It could be used by environmentalist to measure certain parts of the Earth or even farmers to tell what crop to grow based on the rain data.
Outside of the Earth's gravitational pull are more past and present missions. Like the Voyagers those mission could be from past years. They range from orbiting the sun to flying into deep interstellar space. In the past months there have been may discoveries. The main one is the first picture of a black hole. The mission and program that made it is years old and are formed from former projects. Missions like the rovers to mars are not current from the past year but are still current. The rover's missions are from the early 2000's. They are still used because we are still getting data and they can still operate.
Most missions from the last year or two are satellites and low orbiting pods. They circle the Earth and carry out scientific experiments. One example is the ISS or International Space Station. It circles the Earth in a low orbit and hold material to carry out experiments. It is still in use today and is visited by a team of people or a resupply ship once in a while. Scott Kelly was the longest resident on the ISS. He stayed in orbit for over a year living and studying things on the spaceship. While he was in space his twin was on Earth and after a year they were subjects to find out how space changes the human body.
